Packed Lunches
We encourage families to aim for a healthy, balanced packed lunch wherever possible. This does not mean that treats are off limits. A small chocolate bar, biscuit or similar snack is absolutely fine as part of a balanced lunch. For some children, familiar foods can be an important part of helping them feel comfortable and confident about eating at school.
As a guide, a balanced packed lunch might include:
- A sandwich, wrap, bagel or other savoury main item
• A packet of crisps or savoury snack
• Fruit, salad or vegetable sticks
• A yoghurt or similar dairy item
• A biscuit, oat bar or small chocolate treat
• A drink in a carton or refillable bottle
We kindly ask families to avoid sweets or fizzy drinks, as these can sometimes affect children's concentration and energy levels during the school day. If you are looking for ideas for healthy and affordable lunchbox options, the NHS provides some excellent suggestions and recipes here: Healthier Lunchboxes - NHS.
We would also like to remind families that we have children in school with serious food allergies. We request that packed lunches do not contain nuts or nut-containing products (for example Nutella, peanut butter, nuts within cereal or muesli bars, and some pestos). Your support helps us to keep all children as safe as possible. If your child has a particularly severe allergy to another food allergen, please get in touch with the school office so that we can discuss any additional precautions that may be needed.
One final reminder, where possible, we ask that lunch boxes, containers and reusable drinks bottles are clearly labelled with your child's name. Each week we often have several containers left behind, labelling them will help us return them to their owners and reduces unnecessary waste.
Thank you for your support and for helping us promote healthy eating habits whilst maintaining a positive relationship with food.
