3-4 Nursery Curriculum
Our 3-4 year-old curriculum builds seamlessly on the strong foundations established within our 2-3 year-old provision. Children revisit the same six engaging themes throughout the year, allowing them to build upon prior knowledge and experiences while developing a deeper understanding of the world around them. However, whether children are moving up from our 2-3 provision or joining us for the first time, our carefully planned curriculum ensures that every child is welcomed, nurtured and supported from their individual starting point.
While the three Prime Areas of Learning, Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and Physical Development, continue to underpin all learning, children are increasingly supported to develop across all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Through carefully planned experiences, children extend their skills in Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design, ensuring they are well prepared for their transition to Reception.
Our learning environment has been thoughtfully designed to support this progression. Each area of the Nursery provides rich opportunities for exploration, creativity, problem-solving, communication and independence, while reflecting the strands of our school vision.
The Reading Nook
Linked to our Well Read vision strand, this cosy and inviting space encourages children to develop a love of books, stories and language. Children enjoy sharing texts, developing early comprehension skills and fostering a lifelong enjoyment of reading.
The Bay
Linked to our Well Connected vision strand, The Bay provides opportunities for sensory exploration through sand and water play. Children investigate, experiment and collaborate while developing their understanding of the world and key mathematical concepts such as capacity and measure.
The Playhouse
Linked to our Well Nurtured vision strand, The Playhouse supports imaginative play and role-play experiences. Children can explore the home corner, perform on the stage using musical instruments, dress up and engage with small-world play, helping to develop communication, creativity and social skills.
The Gallery
Linked to our Well Rounded vision strand, The Gallery inspires creativity and supports the development of fine motor skills. Through painting, drawing, mark-making and malleable play, children express their ideas, strengthen early writing skills and develop confidence in their artistic abilities.
The Workshop
Linked to our Well Equipped vision strand, The Workshop encourages investigation, construction, problem-solving and critical thinking. From block play and large-scale construction to woodworking and STEM challenges, children are supported to design, build and explore independently.
The Hive
In addition to these learning areas, our Nursery benefits from The Hive, a calm and nurturing sensory space where children can relax, regulate their emotions and take time to reflect whenever they need to. The Hive supports children's wellbeing and helps them feel safe, secure and ready to learn.
Through these carefully planned learning environments and experiences, children develop the confidence, independence and resilience needed for their next stage of learning, ensuring they leave Nursery as curious, capable and enthusiastic learners.
Our Outdoor Learning Environment
Nursery and Reception children share a fabulous outdoor learning environment that has been carefully designed to support all areas of development. A key feature of our provision is the Adventure Zone, which provides exciting opportunities for physical development through climbing structures, balance equipment, trikes and bikes. These experiences help children develop their strength, coordination, balance and confidence while encouraging active play and exploration.
We also have a dedicated Outdoor Classroom, organised in a similar way to our indoor environment so that children can access familiar resources and engage in purposeful learning outdoors. Our philosophy is simple: what is outside is there because it cannot be done inside. Outdoor learning offers opportunities that are bigger, messier and more suited to the natural environment. Whether children are building, investigating, creating, moving or collaborating, the outdoor space provides rich, meaningful experiences that extend and enhance their learning in ways that can only happen outdoors.
