We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children. As such, we expect all staff, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment.
We define safeguarding as being broader than ‘child protection.’ Safeguarding in our school confirms what we do for all children, applies across the whole school, and is linked to our overall culture, ethos, and the principles we follow in school. Safeguarding in our school is child-centred and always ensures that we work in the best interests of the child to ensure that school is a safe place for all our children and young people to be. The first part of our Wellfield Way is 'safe' and its our biggest priority as only children who feel safe, can learn.
We expect ALL in school to understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

As a school located close to the Tyne and Wear Metro, we want all children and families to understand how to travel safely and responsibly when using public transport. The Metro is a fantastic way to travel across our region, but it is important that everyone follows key safety rules to keep themselves and others safe.

- Stay behind the yellow line.
- Never go on the tracks.
- Walk, don't run.
- Listen to adults and Metro staff.
- Be safe, be sensible, be respectful.

Quick Safety Reminder for Children

• Stay with an adult.
• Swim where lifeguards can see you.
• Never use inflatables in the sea.
• Watch for waves and tides.
• If someone is in danger, tell an adult and call 999 for the Coastguard.
