2-3 Nursery Curriculum
Our nurturing curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences. Children learn through a variety of exciting themes that support their development across communication, physical skills, personal and social development, early literacy, mathematics, creativity, and understanding of the world.
The curriculum has a strong focus on the three Prime Areas of Learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage:
- Communication and Language (C&L) - developing listening, understanding, vocabulary and speaking skills.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) - building confidence, independence, positive relationships and emotional wellbeing.
- Physical Development (PD) - supporting gross and fine motor skills, self-care and healthy development.
These prime areas form the foundation of all learning and are woven throughout every experience, activity and topic. We have used Birth to 5 Matters and Development Matters to ensure our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure children develop the essential skills they need for future learning and provides a seamless progression into our 3-4 year-old curriculum, with learning building progressively year on year.
Throughout the year, children enjoy six engaging topics:
- My World, My Way - exploring themselves, their families and their immediate environment.
- What Will I Be? Just Wait and See! - developing confidence and celebrating their abilities and achievements.
- Little Steps, Big Journeys - discovering different types of transport and exploring the wider world.
- Ready, Set, Grow! - learning about growth, life cycles, plants, animals and themselves.
- Once Upon a Time - enjoying traditional tales, nursery rhymes, storytelling and imaginative play.
- All Creatures Great and Small - exploring animals, habitats and caring for living things
